Abstract
Recently, Lacidipine Tablets of Jiudian Pharmaceutical officially received a drug registration approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and successfully passed the generic drug consistency evaluation. As a third-generation, highly lipophilic, long-acting calcium channel blocker (CCB), the successful approval of this product marks an important step by Jiudian Pharmaceutical in the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and further enriches the company's product pipeline.

Lacidipine Tablets are a Class B product under the National Reimbursement Drug List and a Class 4 chemical drug. Relying on the company's in-house active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) advantage, the product achieves dual control of quality and cost. The drug is a third-generation, highly lipophilic, long-acting dihydropyridine CCB and has been included as a first-line recommended agent for the treatment of hypertension in authoritative guidelines in China and abroad, including the Chinese Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Hypertension (2024 Revision). Lacidipine is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It is a specific, highly potent calcium antagonist with high selectivity for calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle. It mainly dilates peripheral arterioles and reduces peripheral vascular resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs, such as beta-blockers, diuretics, and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.
By virtue of its distinctive pharmacological properties, Lacidipine Tablets show clear advantages in clinical use. As a third-generation CCB, its highly lipophilic structure allows it to accumulate in the lipid bilayer of vascular smooth-muscle cell membranes and to be released slowly, achieving smooth blood-pressure reduction over 24 hours while reducing adverse reactions such as reflex sympathetic activation. Once-daily dosing helps improve medication adherence. In older patients with hypertension in particular, lacidipine lowers blood pressure effectively while protecting the vascular endothelium, and it is not metabolized by the kidney, making it one of the preferred treatments for this population.
The task of preventing and treating hypertension in China remains demanding. According to the latest data, the prevalence of hypertension among residents aged 18 years and above in China is about 27.5%, and the number of people aged 18 years and above with hypertension has reached 245 million. Data from Menet show that sales of chemical antihypertensive drugs through public medical institution terminals in China reached about RMB 49.3 billion in 2025. As a third-generation, highly lipophilic, long-acting CCB, Lacidipine Tablets recorded sales of about RMB 200 million in China's three major terminals and six major markets in 2025. Combining potent, smooth blood-pressure reduction with vascular protection, Lacidipine Tablets offer clinicians a better treatment option and are expected to benefit a broad population of patients with hypertension.
Before Lacidipine Tablets were added, Jiudian Pharmaceutical had, through independent research and development and consistency evaluation, built a broad product pipeline in the treatment of hypertension covering multiple mainstream antihypertensive mechanisms. In calcium channel blockers (CCBs), the company already markets several products, including felodipine tablets, felodipine sustained-release tablets, and cilnidipine capsules. In angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs), imidapril hydrochloride tablets are already on the market. The successful approval of Lacidipine Tablets further strengthens the company's position in long-acting CCBs, enriches the product portfolio, and is expected to benefit a wider population of patients with hypertension.

Jiudian Pharmaceutical has long pursued a strategy of coordinated development of formulations, APIs, and pharmaceutical excipients, and continues to deepen its presence in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease, transdermal drug delivery, analgesia and anti-inflammation, and other therapeutic areas. Going forward, the company will continue to focus on clinical needs, accelerate its shift toward innovative-drug research and development, and support the Healthy China initiative with more high-quality, accessible medicines.
