Abstract
Recently, Ibuprofen Sustained-Release Capsules of Jiudian Pharmaceutical officially received a drug registration approval from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and successfully passed the generic drug consistency evaluation. As a product on the National Essential Medicines List, a Class B product under the National Reimbursement Drug List, a product included in national volume-based procurement, and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug recommended as first-line therapy in clinical practice, its successful launch marks a further expansion of Jiudian Pharmaceutical's product portfolio in analgesia and anti-inflammation.

Ibuprofen Sustained-Release Capsules are a propionic-acid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. By inhibiting cyclooxygenase and reducing prostaglandin synthesis, they exert antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. As a classic analgesic in clinical practice, ibuprofen has been widely recommended by multiple authoritative guidelines in China and abroad as first-line treatment for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, mild to moderate pain (such as headache, toothache, dysmenorrhea, and muscle pain), and fever. The sustained-release capsules approved on this occasion use advanced sustained-release technology. The drug is released slowly in the body, providing smooth analgesia for 12 hours, markedly reducing dosing frequency and improving patient adherence. They also avoid sharp fluctuations in plasma concentration and lower the risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions. Their clinical safety profile is favorable, and they are particularly suitable for patients with chronic pain who require long-term, steady analgesia.
Ibuprofen is a classic agent among NSAIDs, with well-established efficacy and a high level of safety, and is widely used across all age groups. The sustained-release dosage form, with the distinctive advantages of a prolonged effect and smooth analgesia, is in strong clinical demand among patients with chronic pain and those who require long-term medication. Data from Menet show that sales of oral ibuprofen preparations in China's three major terminals and six major markets exceeded RMB 4 billion in 2025, and the share accounted for by sustained-release dosage forms has risen year by year. As a product included in national volume-based procurement, Ibuprofen Sustained-Release Capsules safeguard clinical access and are expected to further reduce the medication burden on patients, benefiting a wider population.
Jiudian Pharmaceutical has long pursued a strategy of coordinated development of formulations, APIs, and pharmaceutical excipients, and continues to deepen its presence in analgesia, anti-inflammation, and transdermal drug delivery. Marketed products include more than 10 items, among them Loxoprofen Sodium Cataplasms, Ketoprofen Cataplasms, Flurbiprofen Cataplasms, Lidocaine Cataplasms, Xiaoyan Jietong Cataplasms, and Daiwenjiu Plaster. More than 10 further products, including Jiaoqi Zhitong Cataplasms, a Class 1.1 innovative traditional Chinese medicine, have been submitted for marketing authorization or are under development. In oral dosage forms, the company has marketed loxoprofen sodium tablets, dexketoprofen trometamol tablets, and celecoxib capsules. The addition of Ibuprofen Sustained-Release Capsules forms a coordinated topical-and-oral treatment matrix with the company's existing topical and oral analgesics, meeting the individualized medication needs of patients with different pain intensities and at different stages of disease. Relying on its in-house APIs and sustained-release excipients, the company has placed both quality and cost under its own control, laying a solid foundation for the competitiveness of its products.
Going forward, Jiudian Pharmaceutical will accelerate innovative-drug research and development and the industrialization of high-end generics, support the Healthy China initiative with more high-quality and highly accessible medicines, and benefit patients with pain and chronic disease.
